Mentor & Friend

We remember, honor, and celebrate the life and legacy of Division Chief John 'John Boy' Ashman, whose impact on the Lewisville Fire Department and the entire fire service was immeasurable.
Chief Ashman was a 40-year veteran of the Lewisville Fire Department and a Charter Member of the Lewisville Fire Fighters Association. His contributions helped shape the department we know today. Notably, he was one of the first paramedics in the department, marking a pivotal moment in our history.
Chief Ashman was more than a leader to all who had the privilege of knowing him; he was a mentor and friend. He generously shared his wisdom and experience not only with the members of Lewisville Fire Fighters but also with countless others throughout the firefighting community.
His passion for the fire service was infectious. His deep well of knowledge, built from decades of dedication and hands-on experience, could not be found in any textbook or classroom. He was a walking encyclopedia of fire service excellence.
Chief Ashman was known for his sharp wit, good humor, and boundless spirit. He had a gift for lifting the mood, even in the toughest of times. His influence extended far beyond our city, as he trained others, assisted with fire truck design, and always made himself available to offer advice or simply share a conversation.
Though he is no longer with us, Chief Ashman’s legacy lives on. His teachings, leadership, and commitment to service continue to inspire every department member, and we continue to strive to live up to his standard.
Rest easy, Chief. Your legacy lives on in every call we answer, every lesson we pass on, and every moment we dedicate to becoming the fire fighters you expected us to become.
